Maui Baby!!

I know it has been well over a month and I am just now getting to it but I do things slow, what can I say. We went to Maui with my sister Chanelle and her husband Tom. My Mom and Dad flew out and watched the girls for us. It was so nice of them. I felt so at ease knowing that the girls were well taken care of, and that they were able to be at home so that things wern't too crazy for them with us gone. It was the first time we left Nellie more than overnight so I was a little apprehensive about how she would do but she did great.

We arrived in Maui around 3:00 in the afternoon, after 14 hours of flying and layovers. I was starving because they didn't feed us on the six hour flight and you know how hard it is to skip meals for pregnant girls. I had found out the week before that I was pregnant. We were going to wait until Hawaii, but I guess I get pregnant easier than I thought I did. :) Luckily I didn't get sick until the last day that we were there, so that was good. Chanelle and Tom arrived only like 10 minutes before us, so that was perfect. It was so good to see them, it had been a while and we were so glad that they wanted to do this trip with us. First thing we did was go and get some food. We got some Hawaiian food, Kahlua pork and Teriyaki Chicken, it was really good and hit the spot. Then we went to our hotel. When we got there we went on a walk and investigated the grounds. It was really nice. we stayed at the Wailea Marriott. We walked down to the beach and checked it out and watched the sunset. I wanted to go to bed almost right away because I was really exhausted, I had only slept about 4 hours the night before and I was unable to sleep on the plane. Us when we first got there.
It was so fun to be able to be with my sister as well on this trip.

The next day I woke up really early like at 4:00 am and couldn't get back to sleep. Good thing Chanelle was also awake and the boys wern't too far afterwards. Needless to say we got an early start that day. We went to a local cafe and got some really good banana and macadamia nut pancakes. They were so yummy with coconut syrup. Then we went to Big Beach State Park and spent the day. The beach was the prettiest, the water was sooo clear and beautiful. We went snorkeling and just hung out, wading and sunbathing. I was of course white as a ghost so I didn't want to get fried, I did want some sun though and I thought that I had put plenty of sunscreen on. Well I was wrong. That night i realized that I had gotten fried. I mean one of the worst sunburns I had ever gotten. I was really miserable all night and so mad at myself for not being more careful.

You just can't tell how beautiful and clear the water was by the picture.
That night we went to Ruth's Chris for steaks, obviously the best one I had ever had. I was just really starting to be in pain by that time and I just wanted to go back and go to bed. I know I am really starting to sound like a party pooper, but I was not feeling good.

The next day we went on a day cruise. We left early to go to Molokini Crater. It was a really fun day of snorkeling and they had a barbecue. I love snorkeling. I would have to say it is my favorite Hawaii activity. The day was so much fun just hanging out on the boat. I just had to be so careful because I was so sunburned, so I got a wet suit to cover me up when I was out int he water and as soon as we got back int he boat I put my shirt on and tried to sit in the shade as much as possible. Some lady said to me, "that is a really bad sunburn!" Duh like I couldn't feel it.
When we first got to the crater we drove around back , the water was so blue. I guess the back is where the scuba divers go. I would like to try scuba diving sometime, but we didn't this trip.

On the drive out the crew of the boat caught a huge fish, I can't remember the name of it. It was so cool to see them reel in such a big fish.

On the drive back we drove to a spot where the sea turtles live. It was really cool to see the giant turtles.

The next day we went to the beach near our hotel and played and body surfed. We also hung out at the pool. They had a pool for 18 and over and it was so nice. We just hung out and read books and just relaxed.

The pool looked so cool because it just ran over the edge so it looked almost like it blended with the ocean This was a picture of Tom's head in the pool.

That night we went to the Old Lahaina Luau. I had never been to a Luau before and this one said it was the best. It was awesome. We got all the free drinks we wanted. (non-alcoholic of course.) Who would want to ruin a yummy lava-flow with yucky alcohol. We had quite a few lava flows (pina colada with strawberry)

Tom and Kevin were way too excited about the Kahlua pork. Personally I don't think it is that great, but they sure did love it. It was really cool though to watch them dig up the pig, but it didn't look all that appetizing to me.
They had all the couples come down and dance. It was fun because the one and only time Kevin and I got to dance was at our wedding.

The next day we drove the road to Hana. we had heard so much about it. It was really beautiful. What no one told us though was how terrible the drive is. It was pretty unbearable. It was so twisty. Chanelle and I were in the backseat both holding bags ready to barf. I felt so sick that whole day and it pretty much ruined all memories of the day.

There was a spot where you could drive out on this peninsula. the view was one of the prettiest I have ever seen. While we were there Kevin found a coconut that he wanted to get open so he spent a good while trying to get it open. He was so cute.
On the way back we stopped at a place called Ching's Pond where there we a bunch of locals cliff jumping. Kevin and Tom took a little swim but it was way too cold for me to want to get in, plus I was a little freaked out, the locals were really scary and looking at us like we were invading their territory. I wanted to get out of there quick.

The next day we went up to Lahaina and found a place to rent some scooters. We drove them around and did some shopping and went to lunch and dinner there. We sure had fun riding the scooters around.

We ate at BJ's pizza for lunch. It was really good.

While we were there we saw a boat that was sinking. There were a bunch of guys sitting on it that eventually abandoned it and swam to shore. It was crazy.

We rode the scooters up to Kaanapali Beach and hung out there a little, it was really scary driving on the highway with all the big cars. I was afraid we might get hit.

The last day we rented boogie boards to do some boogie boarding, but of course there were no waves that day. So we hung out on the beach and did quite a bit of snorkeling. There was some really good snorkeling right by the hotel so that was cool. We hung out at the pool and then went to the beach that night and watched the sunset.

We had to take our picture at Lappert's ice cream before we left, we enjoyed it quite a bit while we were there, especially the guys.

The last day we hung out at the pool in the morning. We had to check out at 2:00 so after we went to Kahalui (where the airport is) we saw a movie and then drove around for a little until we went to the airport. Our flight left that night at 9:45. We flew all through the night. It was a pretty rough flight though because I slept for a little over an hour and then woke up really sick. I thought i was going to throw up, but I settled my stomach with some pretzels and was able to sleep on and off for a few more hours until I woke up the last hour feeling really bad. I was able to make it off the plane and to the bathroom just in time. We made it home to Omaha by 2:00 in the afternoon, it was so good to see the girlies again, I missed them so bad. They missed us too Nellie just kept hugging me and hugging me it made me feel so good. We had such a great trip. we are so glad that Tom and Chanelle gave us the opportunity to go with them. It was awesome.

Here we go again!

Well I guess I better officially announce this since most everybody knows. When you come from a big family you usually just have to tell one or two people and everybody knows. We are expecting another baby!! We are really excited! I am 11 weeks along and I am due January 11th. This may just be the first January birthday on the Hansen side. Crazy that there are over 40 of us and not one January birthday. I haven't been feeling too well and it has been really hard with all of the traveling that we have done in the past month, but now I am home and can hopefully get a little more rest, because man am I tired.
